In 1999,
Amway changed its North American business model,
operating over the Internet through
Quixtar.com.
In 2008, to take maximum advantage of the Amway
name, Alticor rebranded Quixtar to
Amway Global
and changed it in 2010 to
Amway North America. However, it has continued
with the Internet business model. Alticor has
maintained its traditional Amway model elsewhere in
the world and today, doing business in more than 80
countries and territories around the world -
including parts of the world considered hostile to
free enterprise when Amway first opened for
business in 1959.
When Amway operated
in North America, before changing to the i-commerce
model in 1999, IBOs were
represented by the
Amway Distributors Association, a trade
association. Today, the association represents IBOs
affiliated with Amway and is now known as the Independent
Business Owners Association International (IBOAI).
