Rules for Using the Internet: Keep it Person-to-Person

 The IBOAI Difference
 Frequently Asked Questions

Your IBOA International Board is committed to the philosophy of keeping the electronic playing field level for all Independent Business Owners. Rules for Internet use are similar in spirit to rules against retail stores or national advertising. The key is that, even though it's Internet-based, your Amway Global-affiliated business must always remain a person-to-person business.

Amway Global, with the assistance of the IBOA International, carefully monitors the Internet to make sure Independent Business Owners are following the rules. Here's a close-up look at four important ones.

1. No "spamming:"
Don't send e-mail to people with whom you don't already have a pre-existing relationship. "Spam"—unsolicited, commercial e-mailis a nuisance, and it violates the one-on-one spirit of the Amway Global business. Whether it's used for recruiting or selling product, unsolicited e-mail is against the rules.

2. Your prospecting Website―password only.
As an Independent Business Owner, you can use a Web site for prospecting—but only if it's password-protected and the content reviewed and authorized. That's because a Web site that's open to anyone amounts to unauthorized advertising. Granting access by password only means that the person visiting your site must have some prior relationship with you through which he or she obtained a passwordonce again preserving the person-to-person nature of the business.

3. No advertising.
This rule exists to maintain the person-to-person nature of this business. Advertising on the Internet is international in scope and, therefore, is contrary to the spirit of this Rule.

These common Internet devices are not allowed:

  • Postings on message boards or forums

  • Meta-tags or other Web site locators

  • Banner ads and classified ads

Some local advertising is permitted, provided that the medium and contents have been authorized by Amway Global.

4. Don't use trademarks to identify your site.
Do not use any trademark or service mark owned by
Amway Global in a Web site address, e-mail address, meta-tag or other Web site locator. For example, naming your Web site Artistry.com would give you an unfair advantage over other Independent Business Owners who sell Artistry products. An e‑mail address of GoQuixtar@XXX.com could cause people to be confused over whether they were communicating with an Independent Business Owner or with Amway Global.

Remember, all Web site content must be reviewed and approved by Amway Global prior to being posted, including changes to content already posted. (Contact your upline for review procedures.)

Independent Business Owners who violate these rules face a six-month suspension of their businesses. On the other hand, if you use Internet communications within the rules, you've added a highly effective tool to your Amway Global-affiliated business.
