• Building a Successful Business  Posted: 8/31/2011

As a part of the IBOAI's commitment to Accreditation Plus, we continue to send best practices messages each month to remind everyone of some of the basic best practices for all of us to keep in mind as we build our businesses.

Building a successful business depends on doing a number of things including planning, organizing, connecting with people and merchandising our fabulous line of products.

• "The Web"  Posted: 6/22/2011

As you build your business, you may discover that the web-and in particular the Amway North America (ANA) Website as well as IBOAI Website - are great tools for sharing information and managing your business. Best Practices remind us that, as with all good things, there are rules and guidelines that need to be followed to promote positive, value-affirming behaviors and prohibit online activities that can be harmful to the business.

• Defining “Pyramid” – and Why Amway Isn’t One  Posted: 4/21/2011

Someone may once have asked you, “Isn’t Amway a pyramid?” You may even have run into a website or blog that misidentified Amway as a pyramid in one form or another. However, the unequivocal fact is, Amway is NOT a pyramid.

• Sharing the Plan  Posted: 3/14/2011

Sharing the Opportunity soon? You know how important it is for someone you are sharing the business with to see the whole picture of what the Opportunity offers. It helps the person you are sharing the business with to make an informed decision, and it helps you determine how to focus your time and energy.

• Every IBO Should Periodically Revisit and Understand the Rules of Conduct  Posted: 2/23/2011

One of the fundamentals of the Amway business is that it works the same way for everyone. We all work by the same rules and we’re all affected by the rules in the same way. That’s the basis of the Rules of Conduct – to create an even playing field for everyone.

When the Rules are written or modified, the IBOAI Board and Amway look at how they may affect every IBO and work diligently to ensure that no one is at a disadvantage. Keeping that in mind, it is imperative that every IBO periodically revisit and understand the Rules of Conduct and how they protect and promote your business.

• Being an Upright Ambassador for the Business  Posted: 12/16/2010

Every IBO is an ambassador for the business. Whatever he or she says or does has the potential to affect how others view the business. For that reason, it’s an IBO Best Practice to always be an “IBO in Good Standing,” which is defined by Rule 2.8 as “an IBO whose conduct does not negatively affect the reputation of Amway Corp., Inc., its related businesses, or IBOs affiliated with Amway and its related entities.”

• Renewing for All the Right Reasons  Posted: 10/04/2010

It’s that time of year when conscientious IBOs recommit to their businesses for another year. It probably seems pretty simple as an IBO Best Practice: Every upstanding IBO owes it to his or her independent business to renew. In fact, Rule 3.7 says your business authorization ends at the end of the calendar year and Rule 3.8 says that in order to remain an IBO, you must file a Renewal Agreement before the end of the calendar year.

• Bringing out the Professional in Us All  Posted: 7/15/2010

What does it mean to be “professional” in the business world? Does it mean dressing in suit and tie, or does it mean projecting a certain demeanor? The Amway Global Rules of Conduct provide some guidance for IBOs that form the backbone of this month’s IBO Best Practices, which is about Professionalism.

• Income and Your Amway Global Business  Posted: 5/19/2010

It’s a fair question: How much money can I make doing this business? The answer isn’t so easy.

• Backing the 70 Percent Rule  Posted: 3/29/2010

With a tiered compensation plan, a key feature to most MLMs, it’s sometimes tempting to find shortcuts for earning bonuses and awards. For some business opportunities, one way is to buy lots of company products, whether or not you use or sell them to a customer. Many years ago, the IBOAI and Amway Global recognized the problem and developed a rule against it – Rule 4.18  of the Rules of Conduct, sometimes called “The Seventy Percent Rule.”

• Protecting the LOS  Posted: 1/29/2010

We bring back an IBO Best Practices that bears remembering: It should be the goal of every IBO to protect the Line of Sponsorship (LOS).

• Your Business Isn’t a Tax Shelter  Posted: 12/16/2009

As we end one calendar year – and one tax season – and begin the next, we bring back an IBO Best Practices that reminds us, we can promote becoming an IBO for lots of reasons: As a tax shelter isn’t one of them.

• Avoid Cross-Group Solicitation  Posted: 9/06/2009

Of the many Rules of Conduct, one of the most serious is that against cross-group solicitation. The Best Practice for IBOs is to honor the lines of sponsorship.

• Keep the Contacts Personal  Posted: 7/10/2009

Anytime someone unfamiliar sends out an unwanted electronic communication to another person, it’s called spam. It’s the “junk mail” of electronic communications, and there are rules against it. For your IBO business, a very important rule is 4.23 of the Rules of Conduct, which prohibits Unsolicited Email Messages.

• Never Bring Products into a Different Country  Posted: 5/15/2009

Every once in a while, we get the question, “How do I send Amway Global products to another country?” The right answer – and IBO Best Practice – is: Other than sending a gift bottle of something to someone for personal use, you shouldn’t.

• Be Creative, Just Not with the Product Claims  Posted: 3/02/2009

One aspect most IBOs like about an independent business is the ability to be creative. To imaginatively market the opportunity and the products. To help others see the potential in their futures and imagine how quality products can improve their lives. However, one area where you shouldn’t be creative is in the area of product claims.

• Making This an Equal Opportunity Business  Posted: 1/21/2009

The saying used to be, “I’ll sponsor anyone with a pulse.” It was said in jest to express eagerness to build the business, but it really spoke volumes about the openness of the opportunity.

• Follow the Online Rules  Posted: 10/12/2008

We live in the age of the Internet. So much communication passes across the Internet, it seems natural to join in. However, the IBOAI Board and Amway Global established zero-tolerance rules to prohibit harmful online activities. These are the IBO Best Practices Online Rules.

• The Five Things You Never Talk About in Polite Business  Posted: 9/23/2008

It shouldn’t surprise you that two things you shouldn’t discuss on stage are politics and religion. Rule 3.1 actually broadens the list to include race, gender, and nationality.

• Your Business Isn’t a Tax Shelter  Posted: 8/19/2008

As an IBO Best Practice, we can promote becoming an IBO for lots of reasons. As a tax shelter isn’t one of them.

• Protecting the LOS  Posted: 7/21/2008

As an IBO Best Practice, it should be the goal of every IBO to protect the Line of Sponsorship (LOS).
