deadlines just like federal holidays do. Check before assuming April 18 for your state as states may vary.

As most of you know, Congress passed tax laws late in 2010. The result of doing this is a delay in filing tax returns for people affected by certain changes in the law. The reason for the delay is that the IRS and private software makers must reprogram their computers to accommodate the law changes.

There are three main changes for which the IRS must program:

1. State and local sales tax deductions. This mostly affects people living in states without state income tax.

2. Education expenses deduction. This deduction is for kindergarten through grade 12 teachers with out-of-

pocket classroom expenses of up to $250.

3. Taxpayer claiming the Higher Education Tuition and Fees deduction.

The IRS will announce a specific date in the near future, when it can start processing tax returns affected by the late law changes.
