Arrival at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 25 was incredibly exciting for the new Platinums attending their first official Amway-sponsored IBO event. Having achieved their first major milestone in the Business, new Platinums are always eager to learn more about building a successful, sustainable business at this event. Following registration, they were invited to tour the IBOAI offices, located in the hotel’s adjoining office building.
The IBO visitors were warmly greeted throughout the afternoon by IBOAI staff who walked them through the IBOAI offices, explaining the origin, purpose, and structure of the Association. New Platinums were thrilled to meet Founders EDC Howie Danzik, the current IBOAI Chairman, who flew in especially to chat with the emerging Leaders. Not only were the Platinums pleased to talk with Howie, they were delighted to have photos taken with this respected IBO Leader. Howie answered the IBOs’ questions about the Association and its relationship with the Corporation and Field. Becky and Dustin Shay of Kansas City, Missouri, were both appreciative of Howie’s open and candid discussion with them. Dustin said, “This is exciting! It raises my appreciation and understanding of all the IBOAI accomplishes – and how important this Association is for the Field.” Nikhil Jain added, “The phenomenal hospitality, the awesome offices, the history – it’s mind-blowing.”
The most spacious meeting room, referred to as the American Way Association (AWA) board room, is named after the original Association. Amway Co-founders Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel made it clear that the IBO was their first priority when they, along with founding Field Leaders, formed the AWA in 1959, which many years later became known as the IBOAI. This room is frequently utilized by the entire Board, and regularly by the Legal & Ethics Committee.
The additional boardrooms, named after the Association’s Field founders – Hansen, Victor, and Dutt – are also where current Board members, along with Amway staff, give birth to excellent ideas and smart solutions for the Business. The IBOAI Business Operations Committee gathers in the Hansen room, the Marketing Advisory Committee (MAC) gathers in the Victor room, and the Awards & Recognition Committee in the Dutt room. During the tours, IBO visitors listened attentively, commenting on the generous amount of thought and time given by Board members. Chad and Amanda Quedding of Maui, Hawaii agreed, “After learning the history of the IBOAI and how it has worked in the past and continues to work closely with the Corporation – and more about the Founders’ vision – we know we’re in good hands. We are fortunate and blessed.” Ernesto Marcos of Dallas, Texas, remarked, “The Board cares about the IBOs in the Field, and it is evident they’re working hard for all of us.”
As Platinums heard about what each IBOAI Board committee discusses and decides on behalf of all IBOs, and learned directly from the IBOAI Chair how strong the partnership is between the Board and Amway executives, the emerging Leaders were not only impressed, many expressed they were inspired and motivated to continue building their Businesses. Josefina Santos of Dallas, Texas commented, “Now I know they work closely with the Corporation to make sure Amway™ products are high quality, a good value, and distinctive. It makes it easier for us to be successful.”
Marlon and Stephanie Mora of California said, “Being treated so warmly, seeing the meeting rooms, learning more about the IBOAI, makes us feel like this Business is solid. 60 years and going strong. All of it gives us a sense of security.”
As new Platinums exited the offices, they were given a goody bag packed with supplies for their busy week ahead.
